The Mercenary Guilds

A 5th Edition look at the Cult of Bascaron, the Silversteel Host, and the Liberty Raiders.

The Mercenary Guilds

Prior to the Great War, the Mercenary Guilds were disorganized sects of fanatics, individual heroes, and others that failed to fit into a specific mold. However, time has a way of organizing the lost. And with time, the Mercenary Guilds have formed into more unified groups, ranging from fanatical cultists to heroes in the pursuit of radical freedom. As the Time of Peace appears to come to an end, the Cult of Bascaron, the Silversteel Host, and the Liberty Raiders promise to usher in the next era of the Mercenary Guilds.

The Cult of Bascaron knows their power, like their God, waxes strong. The fanatical Cult is led by the Coven of the Blood Moon in their worship of Bascaron, the gateway to the twisted plane of monsters. The Cult preaches apocalypse: the world destroyed and reborn in the image of Bascaron itself. Through foul rituals and unimaginable cruelty, they bring their God-Moon ever closer to the Accordlands, exposing the beasts within us all.

The Silversteel Host is known for professionalism, honor, and sense of duty. Based in the imposing fortress of The Vault on the outskirts of the Free Kingdoms, the Silversteel Host fields the largest army in the Accordlands, distributed into small companies in every city, town and disputed territory on the continent. Also supporting a banking organization, the Host aims to raise the quality of war, mercy, and justice for all; and they’ll execute however many oathbreakers, traitors and cheats it takes to do just that.

Liberty Raiders are a loose association of freedom-lovers, pirates, and outcasts who do a much better job of protecting the poor than any Kingdom. Living off the riches that they procure from the more fortunate, members are welcomed and protected by the townsfolk they help. Home to every race, religion, and ethnicity in the Accordlands, the Raiders forget past hatreds and welcome new friendships… as long as the gold keeps flowing.
